Osborne Vanderburg In Our Care

OBITUARY

Osborne Eugene Vanderburg was born on November 2, 1943 in Wadesboro, North Carolina to William and Nannie Mae (Williams) Vanderburg. Bobby as he was affectionately called by family and friends departed this life on July 19, 2018. During the first 12 years of his life he lived with his grandparents in Wadesboro while his parents migrated to New York City to seek better employment opportunities in an effort to provide a better life for their growing family. In 1948 he began his elementary school education at the Anson County Training School in Wadesboro. By 1955 both of his grandparents had passed away and Bobby along with his three siblings joined their parents in New York where he continued his education in the New York City Public School System. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Class of 1961.

Bobby loved the Lord. He gave his life to Christ in 1958 at the Union Baptist Church in Harlem, New York. He was active in several ministries including; Usher Board, Young Adults and the Choir. He also was active in a bowling club with membership consisting of church members.

His military service consisted of being drafted into the United States Army in 1966 where he was trained in infantry combat. He served in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive from January to September 1968. The Tet Offensive was one of the largest Military Campaigns of the war. Bobby did not talk very much at all about his time in military service, however if anyone asked him a question he would provide a short answer to the question without a good deal of focus. Clearly it was a difficult subject for him to address. He was discharged honorably at the rank of Sergeant.

Following his discharge from the military Bobby was last employed by the New York City Transit Authority as a token booth attendant.

Two children were born from his union with Nataline DeLisle; Roger and Kiesha Vanderburg.

Bobby was an awesome cook and was known far and wide for his culinary creations. Although most of his cooking talents related to southern cuisine, it really did not matter the type or origin of the food item. He made desserts that were out of this world. They were so good the family often attempted without success to encourage him to open a restaurant or at least create recipe books. Here is a clue to his success: his secret centered around his mastery of seasonings and flavor enhancers.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Nannie Mae (Williams) Vanderburg, his father, William Vanderburg, and his brother, William Leon Vanderburg. Bobby leaves behind his wife, Nataline Vanderburg.  He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory; his children, Roger Vanderburg, Kiesha Vanderburg-Grant (David); his brothers, Howard Vanderburg (Ruthie), James Vanderburg (Deidra); his grandchildren, Kijanna, Amon, Kiara, ; his nieces, Danita, Celisa, Daysha, Brittany; his nephews, Leonard, Hakim (Kim), Jamel, Baron, Jason (Erica), James II ; his great nieces, Nicole, Hope, Ariyanna, Jordin, Miya; his great nephews, Tory and Evan; his aunt, Pauline Houston; his uncle, Purcell Vanderburg and many other relatives and friends who love him and will miss him dearly.
