Mary Y. Stafford

Allentown, PA, July 13, 1930 - November 22, 2018. Mary Yvonne Stafford neé Smith born in Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies to Fanny Albertha Smith neé Allen and Isaiah Smith.

A woman of faith with a strong work ethic, Mary Yvonne arrived in America at the age of 38 to take advantage of the abundant job opportunities that were available. Like Joseph, even though a stranger in a foreign land, with God’s guidance, every job she held her employers benefitted from her presence.

She loved flowers and had quite a following in the MD and DC area for her dried or plastic flower creations. She was also a whiz with numbers, able to do outrageous calculations in her head in seconds and could balance a budget to within a penny! She loved family life and was happy when her children got married.

Mary Yvonne, known affectionately as Eutrice, was the beloved mother of Ann-Murry (Raphael), Arnett (Ray), Allison (Joseph), Avril, Hubert Jr. and Díane. Grandmother of Claire, Kerwyn, Celina, Carlene, Tricia, Treldon, Christopher, Anestor, Dara, Alethea, Dalia, Cherise, Cassaundra, Damali, Marcus and Megan. Great-grandmother of 17.

She is survived by four brothers: Hamilton John, Cothiewill, Winston and Milton, two sisters: Ether and Eucil and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Isaiah Smith in 1977 and by her mother Fanny Albertha Smith neé Allen in 1987, both at age 83 and then by her oldest brother, Phillington Sonny Smith in 2010.

Mary Yvonne's funeral service will be held at 12 noon (viewing at 11 am) on Friday, November 30, at Calvary Temple of Allentown, 3436 Winchester Road, Allentown, PA 18104, with the Reverend Brian O'Donnell officiating.
