Kathryn E. Helwig

Kathryn (Kathy) E. Helwig from Fleetwood, PA passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Allentown, PA.   Born September 15, 1942 in Slatington, PA.   She was the daughter of the late Edith(Knittle) and Harley Fritz, Sr.

Kathy’s favorite past times included reading, crocheting and many other types of crafts.  She enjoyed accompanying her husband on his long- haul truck driving trips, before his retirement, even learning how to drive herself.  During her time in Illinois and Texas she made many new friends and looked forward to visits from her family and the opportunity to show them new places.  She liked sharing with friends that she had a daughter born on her birthday and a grandson born on her other daughter’s birthday. 

While in Texas Kathy became a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary serving in multiple positions. Since moving back to Pennsylvania she enjoyed spending more time with her family.  Kathy retired from a nurse’s aide position at Allentown State Hospital in 1982.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 33 years Dennis Helwig of Fleetwood, PA, daughters Mary Ann Schaeffer and husband Mike of Allentown, PA and Tina Sargent of Nazareth, PA,     step son Dennis Helwig Jr of WI, grandsons Jonathan Sargent, Keith Sargent, Justin Schaeffer, great grandson Jonathan Sargent Jr. and her cat Felecia aka “Baby”.

She was predeceased by her brother Harley Fritz Jr.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday at 11AM in the Funeral Home.  Viewing begins at 10AM.

Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Memorial Park.
