Just like burial, cremation can occur after a funeral where the casket is present. The difference between a funeral followed by burial and one followed by cremation is that the body is taken to the crematory after the service instead of in a procession to the cemetery. The funeral itself may be preceded by a period of visitation or a reception held at the funeral home or a location chosen by the family. During this time the casket may be held. Again, it is the personal preference of the family on how they wish to create a ceremony that is as unique as the person being remembered.

Following the funeral ceremony, the body is cremated in the casket or placed in a special cremation container. After the cremation, the family again has the opportunity to arrange a public or private ceremony for the final placement of the cremated remains.
