Melvin J.Taylor 86, of Easton (Palmer Township,) Pennsylvania was called home to be with his
Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 15,2016 by the light of the "Super" moon.  Melvin was a
lifelong resident of Easton   born on November 13,1929 to Nathaniel (Tinker) Taylor and Emma Jane (Watford) Taylor.
Melvin loved and was beloved by all.  His goal was to put a smile on every face that he came in
contact with and he was good at doing just that.  He was a warmhearted, sensitive, caring  and
sincere gentleman at  ALL times.  He spent his early years in the downtown area of Church Street near Wolf Junior High School.
At the age of 17 years old, Melvin slipped and fell as he was leaving English class and broke his
hip. This was a  life changing event for him and his family.  It was not so much that it  presented him with a physical challenge  (because he NEVER complained) but he always remembered the kindnesses bestowed upon him all those years ago.  He would remind us of how his siblings and many friends would visit him as he lay in traction.   He told of how the hospital  staff spoiled him.
When he recovered, he became passionate about sending greeting cards to show appreciation and
gratitude for the love and random acts of kindness that he received.  Sending cards became his
legacy.  This tradition continued  until he became ill in May of this year.  Many received cards for over 50 years.  Some years he sent over 400 cards as far away as Spain.
In 1994 he received "The Man of the Year" Award for Community Spirit from the Easton Branch NAACP.  He was a dedicated and loyal member for many years.  Melvin was also the most loyal and avid Easton Red Rover football fan.  On Friday evenings, he could be found standing at the fence near the end zone on the 11th. street side of the field with his entourage.  EAHS football programs can be found at his home as far back as 1950....he could tell you who scored on what play and how many yards they ran the ball.
He and his friends organized a women's travelling baseball team which was the best in the Lehigh Valley.  He learned to be a Presser by trade.  He worked for King's Cleaners for many years, Joseph's Men's Store and other dry cleaners in the Easton area.   He served as president of the Paradise Social Club for over 10 years in Easton, Pennsylvania.   Most importantly, he gave his life to Christ and became a faithful member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
In August 1992, he met and later married the love of his life, Jennell.  On October 2, 2016 they celebrated 18 years of marriage.  He was so unselfish and thoughtful that even then, he remembered to have red roses delivered to his bride with a special note thanking her "for the best years of his life".
Melvin leaves to cherish to his memory his wife,  Jennell Taylor, sister  Maddie Hannah, brother Carl Taylor, sisters-in law Lorraine Boston-Johnson, Mary Bundick and Delores Moore and a brother-in-law, Benjamin Moore.  He was Grandfather Taylor and Pop T to Yvette Harris, Lelia McCreary, Gwen Burse, Edward and Brennon Smith, Jeffrey Waples, Stacey Wade, Stanley Radford and his loyal confidant and mentee Jeffrey S.Wade.  Three neices, Valerie Gillette, Tammy DeShields and Kimberly Taylor-Martin.  "Stretch" was predeceased by his  loving granddaughter, Jamie Coles and brothers, Randolph (Randy), Cleophes (Cleo) and Robert (Skippy).
The home going services for Melvin J.Taylor will be held on Saturday,October 22,2016 at the
Greater Shiloh Church,403 Pastor Fred Davis Street, Easton,Pa.,18042.  A viewing will be from
10 -11:30 AM,   The service will begin at 11:30 AM.  Burial will be at the convenience of the
family. There will be a repast immediately following the service at the Shiloh Enrichment
Center across the street.
